Night Driving Event - Tuesday 29th November 2011

The clocks have gone back and many of us find ourselves driving in the dark for the first time in months.  Brian has kindly offered to present an evening on night-time driving on Tuesday 29th November starting at 7:30pm at the Anglers Arms, Weldon Bridge (just off the A697 at the Rothbury turn-off between Longhorsley and Longframlington).

The evening will consist of a short classroom session followed by a chance to "have a go" on some of the local roads for a while before returning to the Anglers Arms for a "debriefing".

Contrary to popular belief, driving at night is not just a case of switching on the lights and peering into the gloom or leaving the headlamps on high-beam all the time unless someone is coming the other way.  Using a more "advanced" approach should make you more confident driving in the dark, enable you to see more by using the available light to your advantage, help you to read the road by spotting "clues", allow you to take acton to avoid being dazzled and give you more enjoyment out of driving during the hours of darkness.  We encourage everybody to come along - whether to learn something new or just as a refresher.

PLEASE NOTE!  To enable us to arrange to have the right number of vehicles and observers available on the night, we need to have an idea how many people to expect so, please give Gillian a call on 01665 578 350 by Sunday 20th November if you wish to attend.  Alternatively, send a message by clicking here: "I wish to attend"

The new-ish committee are working on the finer details of the meetings and events for the next year and full information will be sent to members in forthcoming issues of the newsletter, by post and by email.  Ideas mooted so far include…

·         A summer driving event of the treasure hunt type

·         A summer evening event (perhaps a barbecue or meal out)

·         A joint event with our friends over the border in the Borders Group, possibly with a competitive element

·         Refresher sessions/observed runs in early autumn

·         Night driving training or demonstration when the clocks change back to GMT

·         A coffee morning in the Morpeth area to raise our profile in that part of the county

·         Guest speakers and presentations, for example accident investigation techniques, etc.

However, we are open to suggestions so, if you have any ideas of your own or could help us in any way, please do not hesitate to get in touch with any of the group contacts by clicking here: "Contact us".
